This one-hour awareness training course is for all staff and is designed to explain the new duties placed on employers from October 2024. New legislation requires employers to to take 'reasonable steps' to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. If a tribunal determines that an employer has failed in this duty, it will have the authority to increase compensation by up to 25%.
At the end of the course, participants will be clear on the organisation's commitment to equality and diversity and what those words really mean in practice. They will also have an understanding of the legal rules on discrimination in the workplace, what is meant by harassment and the employer's responsibilities and expectations for employees.
This one-hour session, which is not interactive, makes use of rhetorical questions and gives time for each person to reflect on their answer, keeping all attendees engaged throughout.
Over the course of a one-hour awareness session, we will cover:
- What do the terms equality and diversity mean to you?
- The provisions of the Equality Act 2010, including types of discrimination and the protected characteristics
- Is this discrimination? Myth or fact activity tailored to the contect staff are working within
- Examples of different types of harassment with a focus on the new duty to prevent sexual harassment
- Your role in creating a harassment-free environment
- What to do if you need to report harassment (organisation specific)
- How the organisation will respond to harassment in the workplace
